See Where Shipwrecked Is Filmed

Date June 12, 2012

Shirpwrecked is a popular reality show shown on BBC and elsewhere.

The show is primarily filmed in New Zealand’s Cook Islands in the South Pacific. Other locations include Moturakau and Rapota. Visitors to the islands can see the different locations where the show is filmed. Right now there is no filming for the show going on, so the filming areas should be able to be ventured to without incident.

The islands look beautiful on the show, but in real life, when you’re really breathing the air, smelling the Pacific Ocean, listening to the local bird life, it becomes so much more than just the set of a reality television series. It becomes more real than it could ever be on the television.

Shipwrecked has been filmed and displayed on BBC’s Channel 4 station, and others, since its inception in mid-2000. It ran for three series, ending in 2001, then picking up again in 2006. There have been eight series altogether of the show.

The first three series of Shipwrecked was more of a social experiment, while the remaining five were retooled into a format not unlike the US series, Survivor.

It is believed that Shipwrecked’s ninth series will be filmed soon, if it has not started filming already.
