Who is Widget & why?

I'm a bar flairing, poi swinging, devil sticking philosophical illusionist who likes to spend time in caves and boxing rings. Key personality traits: Quirkiness, Energetic, Confident, Determined. A person with a lot to say and even more to learn! I was born at a very young age and so have always been a bit ahead of my time. Huge believer in making the most of life, partly because i'm pretty sure i only have one of them. Have an uncanny ability to stay happy and relaxed under all circumstances, but by self-admittance am probably not the easiest person to live with. Was religious (Jewish) when i was younger but lost that when i studied philosophy, but still love to study metaphysics and religion - will never miss a good debate on anything though. Have a Psychology degree and experimented on people in isolated and confined environments because i'm very interested in coping strategies in stressful situations, especially with group dynamics. My passion in life is CAVING - life ambition is to go deeper into a cave then anyone before (no metaphor, literally) at 2.2km. Also do a lot of climbing (not just rock - buildings, trees, people :), snowsports are great too. I like to think of myself as musical but no-one else will for some reason. I love my barwork and will be opening my first flairing bar within 5years of now. I love to travel (see below) and meeting new people is definitely a hobby - you never know what you can gain or learn from talking to someone! Life isn't only about making the most of every opportunity you have, it's about making the opportunities yourself - people make their own luck! I'm at my happiest when i'm no-where with nothing but friends, a fire, booze and the outdoors: in my time i've come to learn games such as body traversing, leg/sock/indian wrestling, reverse rugby, squeezage, can stretching, coin clenching, human laddering.. and an endless list of ridiculous games that involve nothing but outgoing, slightly deranged people.

Phobias..

Finding out a person's weaknesses is important to a healthy relationship. Not really scared of a lot, and i don't mean that in a big man way - rather i haven't bumped into what i'm scared of yet.. though the idea of being marooned on a desert island is one of my greatest fears (just kidding of course). I find mirrors and small children in horror movies fairly startling, also animals with human qualities - especially when they look at you in a knowing way (please message me if you feel the same way, will reassure me knowing i'm not the only one).. would much rather watch Stigmata then Babe anyday!

Hotspots

Travelling isn't my life but it's definitely one of the things i live for! My most recent excursions are thailand, china, tibetan border, and israel - I make a point of getting away at least once every 2weeks, even a 2hour drive can take you into a new environment. Oh and Bill Bryson is a brilliant author! If you don't appreciate the idea of travelling round Britain read 'notes from a small island'. I've travelled by myself and in groups, i've been on expeditions, treks, luxury holidays.. staying in boats, hotels, bungalows, tents, caves, shelters, jungles, cities, mountains - BUT i've never been shipwrecked on an island!

How does Widget have fun?

Anyone who knows me might complain about how much i talk about a few certain things, it's called a passion though! Caving as i've said, and lots of extreme sports.. climbing (my friends call me spider monkey, hope it's a compliment to my climbing technique rather then an insult to my face.. hummm), diving, snowsports. Then activities like fire Poi i get hooked on - have a very addictive personality (as in i get addicted, opposed to people can't get enough of my personality). I like my bar flairing (Tom Cruise kind of thing), everyone likes to show off a little bit now and then! I did a lot of diving in Thailand with a complete nutter (& loved it) where i also conquered my fear of doing backflips, white water rafting, bungy jumping (wow), and xorbing. I'm good at illusions and trickery, think it's a brilliant way to meet people - plus i used to earn tips by making customers coins disappear and then 'losing' them. I can entertain people with nothing but an empty bottle (hehe). But most of all i can bring a group together and get everyone to embarass themselves (especially myself).

Work/£££

I do like to work - doesn't mean i have to have a job but need to be doing anything, building something, going somewhere, etc. etc. Though as it happens i work as a bar manager/supervisor/bartender, really love my job. Have also been a suits salesman (sleazy i know, but it made me very confident), a kickboxing instructor (why do girls love bartenders and kickboxing instructors?), helped with a promotions company for a while taking over club nights and also repped for some parties (it's a hard life). I think you'll notice a trend here, i like to work but not if you understand what i mean. I quickly realised i could never work in an office, or underneath complete morons with no sense of management skills.

10 things to do with 3months to spare on a desert island

1) Make a boat and if it sinks - make a beach buggy, if it breaks - make a bench. 2) Create an island assault course. 3) Have a remake of 'lord of the flies' except no-one dies in this one. 4) Make your own loin cloths. 5) Build a sand sculpture of someone you don't like and throw coconuts at it. 6) Train a monkey to do.. well to do anything you want. 7) Do a Neil's big Art Attack using plants, shells, stones, sand and wood. 8) Grow a beard. 9) Be a witch doctor for a week. 10) Train for the classic island olympics - including coconut tossing, palm cabering, indian wrestling, the 100m shoreline dash, dune jumping, crab rodeo.. any more suggestions give me a message!
