I could say I was your average Norn Iron girl!! But come on, what exactly is average? right? I’m 19 years old and I am currently a student studying Graphic Design and living off my student loans (as u do!)! I have got a typical broad Northern Irish accent, which probably isn’t my best point!! Ok good points… I’m fun loving and love my practical jokes!! I try to keep myself on a high and not get dragged in 2 people’s domestics and friendship debates! I hang around with 3 other best mates …one has got a little boy whose one. Which was great and we all managed to get our wee nights out but now the other two have managed to get themselves up the Hillary Duff and as much as I love them and their kid/kids 2 be…. I don’t wanna fall into that category just yet! Its all about the experience and trying to get as many jammed into life as possible! I don’t wanna get bogged down with relationship and babies! I just wanna have FUN!
Change the record!
Looking back to previous reality Tv people, Northern Ireland/ Ireland aren’t building up too much of a reputation for themselves and the producers of these shows seem to almost rip the elephant when it comes to us! Irish actors in soaps never seem to last as they either get thrown into jail for murdering someone or thrown into a mental home for being a psycho! Priests and nuns too, what’s that about? Gay people!... There’s nothing wrong with being gay but I mean come on….it seems that every Irish person chosen for a television program has to be GAY! WE DO HAVE STRAIGHT PEOPLE IN IRELAND TOO! And I am living proof! O yea we also had the Irish nun turned lesbian in big brother one!! You see…. So please try and not put in a gay Irish person because it is getting slightly boring!
Shipwrecked
Straightened hair, fake bake and slap? Hardly! Bring on the sandy pants, salt sea, a curly bap and some good ol sun kissed tan! Let the games commence!
AFRICA!!
In 2002, I had the privilege of going over to Uganda as a voluntary worker for six weeks with a small group of young people and friends. While there, each group member had their own tasks to organise and complete. I was responsible for the organisation of the educational drawings on the outer walls of the primary school classrooms. To complete my tasks, I had to work closely with the primary school teachers from each of the six classrooms. Each of whom, had very differing ideas as to what they wanted to see on their walls and this required a lot of communication skills, patients and understanding on both our parts, as there was a lot of work to be completed in a short space of time.
Along side this work, we also spent time, with the street children from Kampala City. There, we encouraged these kid’s to take part in sports and craft activities. Many of these kids had horrific stories to share with us, of their lives on the streets, their hardships, loneliness, their drug addiction, dangerous solvent abuse and gang activities. At such a young age, this voluntary work was an experience of a life time for me.
From the 1st of June (for 3 weeks) I took myself back to Africa for the second time, volunteering to do work for the charity Request. This time around I was able to work closely with orphans (between the ages of 18-30) and their siblings by setting up small businesses to help support themselves. This project was incredibly demanding and challenging. Teamwork was a big part of the development as quite often each individual member often became discouraged or disheartened. As before, we were able to paint at some primary schools and orphanages. We also taught some of the classes, played games and gardened for them.
Meeting the children that lived on the streets was probably best character building experience I could have. Seeing the poverty and living conditions first hand were defiantly an experience I will never forget.
Major Achievements
..Winning two gold medals in the Northern Ireland All Schools Swimming Gala
..Being a Choir member in the Northern Ireland School Choir of the year U.T.V Competition.
..Abseiling down the Hilton Hotel (Belfast) in order to raise money for orphan children in Africa.
